My parents gave me a beautiful George Washington lilac bush for my birthday one year. A late spring freeze always ruined the tender buds and it would never make it to the stage of full blooms.

The first spring after my father died, I was sitting out by the lilac bush with my guitar and realized that the bush had bloomed for the first time ever. It was the inspiration for this song.
